How to Prepare for Your Pet Photography Session

This is it – you’ve scheduled the day and are excited to get outside and have a great time having your pet’s pictures taken! You’re filled with anticipation and visions of the wonderful custom artwork that’ll be hanging on your wall shortly after. It’s time to prepare for your pet photography session.

“But wait a minute… am I fully prepared? What should I wear? Should I bring anything? What about the weather?” Suddenly all these thoughts flood your mind and you’re suddenly paralyzed on what to do. How do you prepare?

But no fear! Here’s how to prepare for your pet’s photography session.

First things first, here’s what to bring:

  • a collar/lead (for during the session)

  • a harness (for walking between sessions)

  • small treats

  • water

  • poop bags

  • comfortable, closed-toe shoes

  • any favorite toys!

Simple enough, right? With these items you’re off to a great start!

Now, let’s think about what to wear:

  • Layers, layers, layers (think belts, hats, scarves, jewelry, etc.)

  • Textures, patterns, and colors can also be good if not overwhelming (no neon green please!)

  • Don’t think you only need to wear drab colors, however!

  • Do not wear white, black, or very vibrant colors as these do not photograph well

  • Please avoid hats (like baseball caps) and sunglasses

But outside of these, feel free to look your best! It’s a fun time and that’s your only job during the entirety of the session – to have fun and relax. In the case that the weather is really bad or we are unable to have the session, I will do my best to reschedule with you at another time. Please plan on leaving some buffer time for our session in case we need to make sudden adjustments and if you absolutely must reschedule, let me know asap!

Finally, how many humans can be involved in the photos?

Let’s limit it to as few as needed. Otherwise, it may be too distracting or high energy for you pet. Our goal is a nice, calm vibe for the entire session so your pet’s normal, fun personality can shine through without any hiccups.

And that’s it! I’m sure it beagles your mind how easy it is. Follow the above guidelines and you’ll be having a fun, memorable session before you know it.
